Quick points about Junk Mail Handling
-
No junk mail filters have been set unless you have set them
- Emails from within the GroupWise system cannot be junked.
- You must add addresses to the Junk List for those emails to go to the Junk Mail folder.
- Mail in the Junk folder older than 14 days will be deleted.
- You may also “Block” email addresses to prevent them from ever reaching your account.
If you receive a spam email from an address external to GroupWise and would like to junk it and future emails from that address, the following steps will move those items to the Junk Folder:
- Highlight the email to be junked
- Click Actions > Junk Mail
- Click either Junk Sender or Block Sender (Junk will send it to your junk mail folder where you can check it later and Block will prevent it from reaching your account)
- Next it will ask if you would like to junk/block this particular email address or addresses from that domain.
TIP: The domain is what appears after the @ sign in an email address: hotmail.com, yahoo.com, aol.com, bellsouth.net – junking/blocking common domains like these could result in the loss of emails, in which case blocking only the single address may be the best choice.
For more extreme measures, you may choose to junk/block items from any address not listed in any of your Personal address books, including Frequent Contacts.
- From GroupWise, click Tools > Junk Mail Handling > Settings
Select the 2nd option, “Enable Junk Mail Handling for Personal Address Books.”
- Click Apply > OK
*Note: If you choose to use this option, it is a good idea to check your Junk Mail folder occasionally to be sure items that you do want to read were not sent to Junk because the address was not in your address book.
