The Network Operations division is responsible for installing and maintaining KSU's Network Infrastructure. KSU has over 100 subnets supplied by over 600 switches and two core routers that are connected with over five miles of Fiber Optic cable.

The switches provide access to numerous campus servers running on a variety of platforms and Operating Systems such as Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Novell Netware, HPUX, Solaris and Linux.  This infrastructure also provides a link to the Internet for over 20,000 users.

Network Operations utilizes Unix servers to provide Enterprise services to campus.  These services include: DNS (Domain Name Services), DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol), Network Time Service, and WINS (Windows Internet Naming Service).

This division is also responsible for managing the Campus Firewall protecting KSU’s network from outside attacks by viruses, Trojans, spammers and hackers.  This firewall processes an average of 119,845,987 packets per day for KSU.

A current project for Network Operations is the addition of a Wireless Infrastructure for added accessibility for students, faculty and staff.
